Whole School Assembly

Well done to our team from Akeake who ran the whole school assembly last week!
It can be a bit scary getting up on stage in front of so many people - but you all did an amazing job and we are very proud of how brave you all were.
Ka Pai Koutou!

Our wonderful M.C's
Lighting Crew
Technical Experts
It was great to be able to share some of our learning that we have been doing about the Commonwealth Games.
We worked really hard on our projects and we are really proud of them!

And we enjoyed teaching the whole school how to sing the National Anthem while doing
Sign Language at the same time!

We are looking forward to the next time that we get to run assembly so that
we can share more of our learning with everyone!

Mainpower Sports Coaches

This week we were lucky to have the Mainpower Sports coaches back to help us with netball skills. We learnt how to jump around with both feet, how to pass and catch, and how to move up the court by passing the ball rather than running with it. We had lots of fun doing a bunch of activities to practice these new skills.

Our focus for the rest of the term will be throwing and catching.

Floating and Sinking

We have become scientists over the last few weeks and have been learning about Floating and Sinking.

We have had a lot of discussions about why things float and sink and we have done lots of experiments.

We have had heaps of fun doing this!

One of the things we did was design a boat with a group.
Then we got to test our boats to see if they floated.  Check out our Paneke Hub videos below to see how we did ...

Sports Spectacular

Akeake had a fantastic day at the Kaiapoi Rugby Grounds.

We had a go at some new sports, softball, archery, hockey, golf and netball, as well as some we already know, football and rippa rugby.

A big thank you to all the coaches who came out today.

The PTA Needs You!

Egg Experiment

In Akeake we have been learning about floating and sinking. Mrs Wright did a really cool experiment with Rooms 8, 9 and 10. She had three cups filled with water, and three eggs. She put the first egg into the first cup and it sank to the bottom. In the next cup, she mixed 4 teaspoons of salt into the water and the egg floated. When she diluted (add more water to) the salty cup, the egg began to sink again. This led to a discussion about the Dead Sea and how people can float in the water because there is so much salt (it is dense).

Football Skills

We had the Christchurch Football Centre come in and teach us a bit about football. We got into teams with bibs and played a couple of games against each other. We really enjoyed the opportunity, and have already been asking about some basketball or hockey coaches that can teach us some new skills.
