Whole School Assembly

A great job was done by children from Akeake who ran the whole school assembly on Friday!

Some of these children were a bit nervous - but they showed our school value of Being Brave and they did a great job.  Well done team!

During assembly we shared some of our learning from over the holidays.  We took a 

Reading Bingo sheet home with us and we did our best to fill this in.  One of the things on our Bingo 

sheet was to Reading in a Strange place.

Swimming!

Please note the change of times below.

Akeake are going swimming every afternoon in weeks 3 and 4 this term down at the Kaiapoi Aquatic Centre. We start on Monday 6 August and finish on Friday 17 August. 

The exact times are as follows:
Room 11  - 12pm
Room 12  - 12.30pm
Room 9  - 1pm
Room 8  - 1.30pm
Room 10 - 2pm

If you are able to provide transport on wet days, please let your child's teacher know. We would love to attend swimming even if it is raining outside! 

Please also ensure that your child's togs, towel and school uniform are clearly labelled with their name. This will save us any hassle when we are getting changed. 

KNS Jump Jam

WOW Team Akeake!  What an awesome way to end the term today.

We are so proud of all our tamariki who were so BRAVE and got up on the stage to strut their stuff at the KNS Jump Jam show.  Not only did they do this in front of the whole school, but also in front of a packed out 

hall of parents, grandparents and other family and friends.  

You all did an amazing job.

We hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing holiday.  See you all next term.

Character Dress Up Day - KNS Book Week

WOW! Great job with the Character Book Day Akeake.

It was great to see so many children dressed up and to see the amazing effort that had been put into your characters.  It was super hard for the teachers to choose the best dressed - so even though we could only pick two children from each class, we think you were all awesome.  Well done!

Celebrating Matariki

Over the last two weeks we have been learning a lot about Matariki.

On Friday, the Akeake Team got together to share our learning, watch our yr 3/4 Kapahaka perform and to share some kai.  

We had made some yummy star biscuit and we decorated them especially for Matariki.  

We have had lots of fun with our new learning and we are looking forward to doing it again next year!

We got 2 star cookies each and we worked in groups to decorate them.

We carefully put icing and sprinkles on our stars.

And the we got to eat them.  They were delicious!

Matariki

Matariki is a Māori event that celebrates the start of a new year. We have been celebrating Matariki at KNS this week with a range of activities. The activities will run through next week and we are looking forward to a shared kai on Friday afternoon. Kōapa are especially proud of the stars that we have made and the display that we have in our space. We designed our own stars on black paper and decorated them with coloured paper. There are pictures of our busy hub making the stars below. We were even lucky enough to have Mr O back relieving in Room 8! 

Finger Painting for the Kaiapoi Art Expo

We have been working hard in Akeake during Explore Time to get ready for the Kaiapoi Art Expo.
Those who chose to do Finger Painting, have created some amazing artworks!
Over three sessions we followed some steps to create our art.  We did a little bit each time and had to wait for the
paint to dry in between.  We got to choose between the 'Owl' and 'Jungle' to create.
